Thanks to the generous, long-standing support of the German Red Cross Neumünster, we can enjoy a healthy school breakfast three times a week.
Every Tuesday morning, the "Café Nimmersatt," under the direction of Angela Forsch, prepares a full breakfast for an entire class at our school. Our students are thrilled when their breakfast day arrives in the schedule and they are seated at lovingly set tables in our kitchen. Delicious, finely prepared fruit salads, muesli, milk, vegetable sticks, and hot chocolate await them. Everything is devoured in a convivial atmosphere, and if there are any leftovers on the plates, they know they should be more careful with the portions next time. Seconds are always allowed.
On Wednesday and Thursday mornings, our students are provided with a healthy snack consisting of portions of fruit and vegetables. During the first breakfast break of the day, all children have the opportunity to tuck in and try fruits and vegetables they may not have previously been familiar with or eaten frequently. Over time, we've noticed that the lunch boxes brought from home also contain more and more pieces of fruit and vegetables.
A drinking water dispenser is available to our students on the ground floor of the building. Students are welcome to fill up their own bottles (with a sufficiently large opening) during recess. All children can also tap drinking water in their own classrooms; it just doesn't bubble, but for many, it doesn't need to.
It's very important to us to spend the morning as sugar-free as possible. Sugary drinks, in particular, cause serious damage to our children's teeth, especially if they don't brush their teeth thoroughly enough.
To ensure our students are accustomed to and reminded of proper toothbrush use, our dental hygienist, Ms. Doege, has been with us regularly for many years. Class by class, all children brush their teeth under her systematic guidance and learn what they can improve. With parental consent, teeth are also varnished at regular intervals for optimal protection. Parents are informed of this in advance.
The dental service also regularly assesses the dental health of all our schoolchildren and subsequently informs parents of the results of the examination.
Our school dentists are also happy to participate in parent meetings to provide information and answer parents' questions.
